This is the very first Mansi textbook intended for non-native speakers and realized in a contemporary European style. The book is above all a descriptive work on contemporary Mansi. As the book is intended for beginners, the emphasis in the texts and exercises is on basic structures, basic vocabulary, and basic-level discussions, while considering the functional aspect of these elements. The exercises can be completed in pairs or groups, for example in the classroom, as well as individually. The book consists of fifteen chapters. Mansi is a Uralic language spoken in Western Siberia. It is a distant relative language of Finnish, and a close relative of Khanty and Hungarian. It is severely endangered. Susanna Virtanen, PhD, is a researcher of the Mansi language. She has taught and developed the teaching of Mansi at the University of Helsinki. Csilla Horvath, PhD, is a linguist and anthropologist, specialised in the Mansi language and culture. Tamara Merova is a native speaker and teacher of the Mansi language. She works as a Mansi journalist.
